I take on all aspects of the website build, from getting to know your requirements and producing a number of design ideas, to doing the coding and assisting with content.
While I would probably be your sole point of contact throughout the project, I have a trusted network of similar freelancers that I regularly work with, which allows me to take on more and bigger projects. It also means that I have a wide range of skills and knowledge that can be drawn upon as necessary.
The ‘decentralised-organisation’ way of working is becoming increasingly common in the field of IT and, as we maximise the use of communications technology to work more remotely, we can greatly reduce overheads and so deliver more cost-effective services.
I have been working with websites for over ten years, starting as a volunteer website manager for Cardiff Friends of the Earth before Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) were even widely used and everyone used tables for layouts (while that knowledge makes me something of a dinosaur, it still comes in extremely valuable for coding HTML newsletters, which still use that old school form of coding).
I developed my web and other skills whilst employed as the network coordinator for the Welsh International Sector Network (a network of international aid organisations, including Oxfam, Save the Children, CAFOD and Christian Aid, as well as smaller organisations within the field.). That role covered all aspects of inter-organisational coordination and external communications.
Whilst doing the practical work, I also read for a PhD, which allowed me to get deeper into the theories of communication and networking in particular.
